Halloween Safety Tips for Parents & Other Adults in Doral, FL; Stay in Well Lit Areas & in Groups

With Halloween around the corner it is important to keep the kids safe. With so many people out to hurt children, take them away from their homes, or worse; you can’t be too careful. It is unfortunate that there are people and organizations that want to hurt people, especially little ones. This Halloween we encourage all parents to apply these safety tips to your Halloween festivities in an effort to keep your precious babes and other people’s children as safe as possible. Below you will find some basic tips that we at Advanced Private Investigator & Security of Miami FL has compiled to help keep everyone safe this Halloween.

Halloween Safety Tips

1) Whenever crossing a street, be patient and use the traffic signals and crosswalks at the corners. Be sure to be an example and have your kids do it with you and look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross. Walk; don’t run, cross the street with heads up and put electronic devices down to not distract you. Encourage the kids to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them so they know they are seen. Walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible if there are no sidewalks and whenever available, walk on sidewalks or paths. Stay attentive and watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Educate the kids about the dangers of darting out into the street between parked cars.
2) For children under the age of 12 ensure there is a supervising adult, especially once it is dark. If you have mature kids that don’t require adult supervision, enforce sticking to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups.
3) Costumes can be both creative and safe. Try to use light colors and decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers if possible. Masks can significantly obstruct the child’s vision; offer the use of face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks. To help them see and be seen by drivers, you and the kids should carry glow sticks or flashlights. To prevent trips and falls, make sure the costume is the proper size before you buy.
4) Driving slower and with more caution is encouraged among drivers during Halloween. Be especially alert in residential neighborhoods and slow way down. With the excitement of Halloween and possible sugar rush, children can move in unpredictable ways, even in the presence of an adult. Take a closer look for signs of kids present at intersections, on medians and on curbs. Slowly and carefully enter and exit driveways and alleys. So you can better concentrate on the road and your surroundings, eliminate any distractions inside your vehicle. Anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances and again, drive slowly. Keep in mind the popular peek trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours.
