Awareness, Safety Tips & Ways to Prevent & Overcome Human Sex Trafficking in Miami, FL

“It won’t happen to me”. “My child wouldn’t talk to strangers”. “That kind of crime does not go on in my community”. These are common thoughts or what is even said when people lose their children to sex trafficking. Where some instances could be due to a snatch and grab, others are generally from a predator that is patient and makes a target their friend before they take your precious child from you and sentences them into a life of slavery.

Human Trafficking Prevention Safety Tips

1) More often than not “recruiters” frequent bowling alleys, parks, parties, typical teen hang out areas, malls, movie theaters, and school grounds; even online. Always make sure you always know where your children are, no matter what their age is and ensure they are supervised. 4) Screen boyfriends by checking their age and status in the community. Be sure to check with parents and if necessary, run a background check. Recruiters will often earn the trust of the parent’s and family as well.
5) To assist in knowing where children are, consider adding a GPS tracker to your child’s phone to enhance their own protection.
6) Have a code word or phrase. For example, saying “I’m fine” means “Not okay! I need help!”. This way, if they are in the hands of an abductor they can text you this code without raising the suspicion of the abductor or recruiter.
7) Create a coding system that they can send to you quickly if something is wrong or they want you to get out of do something with friends or their boyfriend they don’t feel comfortable with. Like a character, number, letter, or punctuation mark, or even an emoji.

10) Thought high school age children are targets, children between the ages but 8 to 14 year-olds are the primary targets of recruiters. You need to coach, teach, and train your kids about all threats.
11) Remind them never to drink anything that is left unattended, not even water. Many predators will go to lengths as to as drug their targets to make them submissive to avoid getting unwanted attention.
