Part 2 – Foreign Intrigue & How to Choose an International Private Investigator in Miramar, FL

Continuing a two-part series on hiring a private investigator for work that crosses international boundaries. More considerations include:
• For a few dollars you can run a background check on the investigator as well. You want to know about education, experience and appropriate background in their investigative specialty that impacts your specific investigative needs. Gadgets? You will want to know what specific equipment and tools of the trade that is available to the investigator. Generally, the better the tech, the better the investigation.
• Talk to them. Interview the candidate about their experience in the targeted country. Candid answers are a positive indicator, hedging or incomplete answers? Look elsewhere. Has the investigator been to the country before, how often and how many times have they been to the targeted country. How long on the ground doing operations inside the borders of that country? An understanding of local laws impacting investigative activities, and rules of surveillance by private individuals. Customs and culture, they vary and to obtain information you must know the local citizens. Another good indicator is that the investigator has a professional network established in that country. Review the investigators passport, this will reveal travel and time spent in various countries.
• Review contracts and contract requirements. Even within the US contract and licensing requirements vary from state to state for private investigators. Review your contract for an international investigation to get a feel for the investigators operating environment and any special provisions or notations involved.
• Your contract should reveal your obligations as well as the investigator. Costs need to be accounted for up front and spelled out, so you know how much it is going to cost you. A timeline should be included and how often the investigator needs to report in or special contact for when a breaking situation occurs. Confidentiality provisions for information or evidence turned over to an attorney.
• Know what techniques, procedures and methods that the investigator plans on employing. You need to establish that the investigation must be legal complying with all the laws of the targeted country. No wiretapping, impersonating a police officer, misrepresentation, trespassing, mail tampering or credit reports. Only records open to the public should be accessed as only legally obtained information is presentable in a court proceeding. Legal penalties may incur affecting either you or your investigator or both if the investigation goes beyond the legal boundaries.
• Payment should be made either through a secure link with your credit card or a service like PayPal.
• Check with your investigator on a regular basis. This ensures the investigator is on the case, and keeps you updated as to the progress of your investigation. He or she may have other clients, make sure your case doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
