Traveling can prove to be dangerous, especially so for those traveling along. There are too many examples of people being abducted and being forced into sex trafficking, ransom, or other malicious reasons as well as being victimized by rape, robbery, or assault crimes. When traveling, particularly those who are traveling alone, it is important to do so as safely as possible and today, we at Advanced Private Investigator & Security of Miami FL would like to take the opportunity to suggest some tips and advice on how you can travel more safely.
Personal Security While Traveling
1) Notify close friends and family. A few day before your traveling date, be sure to notify close friends or family of itinerary plans. Specify the date you are leaving and expected to return. Keep them posted on the hotel arrangements and other places you plan on visiting. Never use social media sites to publicize your plans. You never know who is monitoring your agendas and will take advantage of your absence or your whereabouts.
2) Public transportation. If you are using the local transportation, learn all schedules of public transportation so you are not caught somewhere for hours on end, leaving yourself vulnerable to potential trouble. Keep in mind where all the exits are, and keep close to the crowds and avoid secluding yourself whenever possible.
3) Conceal your valuables. Pack optimal clothes and/or accessories that will hide your valuables better. Items that can be easily stolen are your ID, cell phone, passports, cash and other means of payments. These items need to be kept out of view and hidden on your persons as opposed to your purses, backpacks, or luggage bags that can be easily lifted when your focus is elsewhere.
4) Do not fight over stuff. In the event something of yours is getting snatched, let them go, they are not work your life and some people are willing to kill you over it.
5) Know the area you are going to visit. If the destination is new to you, be sure to do research on the places where you plan on visiting. Seek out advice from trusted colleagues, friends and family that knows where the safer places are to play tourist and the places that should be avoided that might invite trouble.
6) Dress to blend in. Wear clothes that are appropriate for the venues you are attending. Depending on the intent, those that over-dressed people, wearing excessive and expensive jewelry, as well as wearing the expensive brands of clothes could put you on the radar for those individuals looking for prey.
7) Be prepared and don’t linger in airports. Whenever possible have your boarding pass ready before getting to the airport, have all of your luggage and carry on items ready to go. Board your plane as quickly as possible. Avoid waiting in one location until your flight or ride if that is case, for too long allowing people to “scout” potentially easy targets.
8) Stay aware and always be cautious. Pick-pockets use crowded terminals as an excuse to “bump into you” and while your mind is focused on the touch or jostle, which is when they lift your valuables. Stay cautious and weary during your travels.
