Spy Camera Pocket Watch: The trickiest way that someone who was out to investigate a person or specific activity was to use their trusty spy camera pocket watch. The pocket watch was outfitted with a camera that would extend out and make it possible for the investigator to catch some proof for their client. This has since been taken over by a plethora of more discreet, reliable and improved footage options! Every cell phone has a camera that is at fingers reach at any moment in time. You can also get small wireless cameras that are able to be placed almost anywhere without someone even knowing that they are there.
Pipe Pistol: This was a way that investigators were able to protect themselves and keep safe if they needed to. They were able to carry a metal pipe that looked a lot like a regular pipe that you would use to smoke but in actuality it was a pistol that could be used to fire if necessary. The great advances that have been made in personal protection are really countless. First the equipment that is available to use now makes it so that you don’t need to get that close to any action. If you are required to get up close and personal, you can carry different weapons that you choose. So if you see a “spy” with a pipe it is probably just a pipe.
The Pigeon Camera: This was a technique that included strapping a camera to a pigeon that had training to come back to a specific location after being sent out. The problem that we can see is if the pigeon went the wrong direction or just never came back. Not only did you not get the shot you needed but you also could lose your equipment. We now have small drones that can be manned remotely and can take video or pictures of any area that you might need. You can also get video and picture from the thousands of locations that are set up and constantly being run.
