Their risk is elevated due to their employment, high-profile status, net worth, affiliations or geographical location. It can be as simple as home security system installation. But in most of our minds it equates to someone with a bodyguard. It can extend to armored vehicles, private versus commercial jet travel, mail screening and some evasion and scramble plans when mobile in a vehicle.

Secret Service Professionals

The primary threat is life and limb, kidnapping and/or extortion. The epitome of executive protection is the Secret Service that protects the President. A typical protection agent must be proficient in open hand defense. Many actions occur in close-proximity and do not allow the time for the implementation of a firearm or impact tool. They are trained drivers employing evasive and escape techniques. They need to know first aid and be expert marksman. Many of the actions need to be kept low key as there is a public perception liability associated with extreme reaction to an attack, many of which may be benign fan attention.

Executive Protection Requirements

Executive protection agencies need a state issued business license, state-issued registration to provide protective services, liability insurance, certificates of training for each agent, state issued concealed carry weapons permit.

Executive Protection Programs

In many cases thorough protection is a team effort with a team leader, his assistant leader, tactical commander, motorcade lead, advance lead (this is intel on where they are going) mobile agent, static agent and protective Intelligence agent. Not all are present all the time, and duties tend to blur somewhat. The threat level determined, and the importance of the protected person dictates the organization and number of professionals assigned.

Risk Management Review

International travel often presents challenges to protective services. Celebrity protection is taxing with usually only minimal personnel on the team. Considerations include a risk management evaluation as to the risk present to the individual being protected. Resources available, the operating environment and an assessment of potential problems.

Personal Protection Barriers

• Use initiative, it is better to act than react. But if you must react do it quickly and carry through.
• Be consistent. Check six (back), visually access your car as you approach it. Look left and right for things that look out of place or just don’t look right. A strange car down the street, persons you don’t know in the neighborhood.
• Disrupt or alter your routine, don’t drive the same route to work, take the scenic route, change it up. It is much harder for a rolling surveillance to keep up.
• Commonsense is an asset and virtue.
• Improve awareness, keep your head on ‘swivel’. Utilize peripheral vision, hearing and smell. Hickock sat with his back to a wall on purpose. The one time he failed to do so, cost him. You want a dominate all seeing position. When entering a building look around, when exiting as well.
• Defeat complacency. Complacency is one of the primary causes of defeat. You must always combat the complacency.
• Maintain a low profile, dress to blend. White, silver or grey are blending colors. Red, yellow and orange ‘scream see me’. Dress should be conservative as well.
• You have an individual responsibility for your safety. Your protection agent is there to assist, but you have some responsibility for your own safety as well. Better to work as a team than two individuals.
• Be aware of surveillance. Are being watched? For someone to cause harm, the must gather intelligence on their target. You may find yourself under surveillance pending an attack
• Utilize good communications. Hand signals, cell phone etc. Be aware, your protector may detect a threat and try to warn you.
• Good habits vs bad habits.

Private Investigations & More in Greater Miami, Sunny Isles, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Weston, Plantation City & Miami Gardens Florida

This is an overview of personal protection. Advanced Private Investigator & Security of Miami FL can handle all your private investigation and security needs. Contact us today!

Executive protection is a security risk mitigation strategy to protect VIP (Very Important Persons) that if compromised presents potential loss for the business.
